DiverseCity On Board – Calgary

Bow Valley College, through the Center for Excellence in Immigrant and Intercultural Advancement,  is pleased to be a partner with the National DiverseCity on Board Initiative and  be able to bring this unique program to Calgary.  Boards and prospective board members will be able to connect through a system that will select based on skills, talents and interests.  In addition, all prospective board members will be trained in board governance through a series of on-line courses, offered through Ryerson University. Connecting talent with the community is a pillar of the Center for Excellence.

DiverseCity on Board – National

Canadian cities are among the most diverse regions of the world, with immigrants and visible minorities comprising an increasing share of their population.

There are more than 170,000 nonprofit and charitable organizations in Canada, many of which are headquartered in our urban centres. All are governed by boards of directors, drawn from members of the public. In addition, municipal, provincial and federal governments appoint thousands of citizens to serve the public good on their many agencies, boards and commissions. However, there is a disconnect between who sit on these boards and the increasing diversity of the population.

DiverseCity onBoard will address this disconnect by providing services to:

Individuals

Any individual, anywhere (inside and outside Canada) interested in acquiring board governance training which is embedded in principles of diversity and inclusion.

Visible minorities and underrepresented immigrants interested in serving as directors on either a nonprofit or charitable board or on agency of the municipal, provincial or federal government.

Organizations

Nonprofit, charitable organizations as well as public agencies, boards and commissions looking for qualified candidates from visible minority and underrepresented immigrant communities, and a interest in embedding principles of inclusion and diversity into their governance processes, policies and approaches.
